F@#k your bacon. Let the pigs stand up!
Urgent: Tell your senators to remove the Save Our Bacon Act from the Farm Bill

When farmed animals are granted the barest consideration – given enough room to stand up and turn around – we take that as a win. In 2018, voters in California passed Prop 12 to allow that tiniest justice. Can you imagine being a mother pig confined to a gestation crate and unable to move for four months? California said no.
Now Congress, lobbied by the insatiable National Pork Producers Council, thinks it’s OK to strip that right from animals and nullify states’ rights in the process. This is anti-animal, and it’s anti-democratic.
And it’s already happened in the House of Representatives, which passed the 2026 Farm Bill on April 30.
Of course, if people would stop eating meat and corporations would stop farming animals, we would not have this problem. It really is that easy – but consumers are selfish and unthinking, and so here we are.
The Save Our Bacon Act (an extremely cruel and not cute pun) is language in the Farm Bill that preempts multiple animal welfare laws in multiple states. Activists from nonprofits like Compassion in World Farming, The Humane League and Pro-Animal Future are pleading with senators now to strike that act from the bill before passing it. The timeline for voting is unclear; however, because it could happen at any point now, this is urgent. Please join the campaign right now. Just call the DC office of both your senators.
In California, for example, Adam Schiff has already made a public statement against the Save Our Bacon Act: “We are extremely disappointed that today’s House-passed Farm Bill includes language to preempt California’s Prop 12 and other state laws. These laws set bare-minimum sanitation and space requirements for farm animals and are a lifeline to small, independent farmers who rely on the markets these laws have created. In order for a Farm Bill to pass in the Senate, poison pills such as Prop 12 preemption need to be removed.”
We need our other senator, Alex Padilla, to do the same.
And we need you – wherever you live – to call and keep calling your senators. Keep the pressure on. Share this information. Share this post. Remember, this is the very least we can do, but for an estimated 6 million female breeding pigs, it’s the difference between standing up and turning around, or not.
